Detmolder Frühlingsfest — Season Opening in Lipperland

The Detmolder Frühlingsfest is the season opening for funfairs in the Lippe region — and at the same time the start of the showmen's season in Ostwestfalen-Lippe. Four days of festival hustle and bustle in the city center, organized by the City of Detmold in cooperation with the Showmen's Association, with a clear motto: „Fit for Spring" — the city encourages activities related to sports, exercise, and the opening of outdoor activities.

Spring Funfair on Three Squares — 60 Showmen

The centerpiece is the Spring Funfair: Around 60 showmen are spread across three central squares in Detmold's city center:

• Rosental — Main square with large rides, Ferris wheel, carousels
• Ameide — Family funfair with children's rides and small carousels
• Bruchberg — City-adjacent expansion with more showmen's stalls

Classic repertoire: dodgems, Ferris wheel, Wilde Maus, Crazy Frog, chain carousel, boxing hall, shooting gallery, haunted house, sweet stalls (almonds, candy apples, gingerbread, cotton candy), snack stalls (bratwurst, fries, bockwurst, potato pancakes).

Sunday Shopping and Family Monday

Two special days:

• Sunday, April 12, 2026 — Sunday Shopping in Detmold's city center from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Shops around Lange Straße and Krumme Straße open for strollers and families.
• Monday, April 13, 2026 — Family Monday: All rides for €2. The traditional family day makes the funfair affordably accessible — very popular with families from Detmold, Lemgo, Bad Salzuflen, Horn-Bad Meinberg, and the surrounding communities.

Detmold and the Lipperland Region

Detmold is the district town of the Lippe district with about 74,000 inhabitants — seat of the University of Music (founded 1946) and the former princely residence of the Principality of Lippe. Detmold lies at the foot of the Teutoburg Forest, in close proximity to the Hermann Monument and the LWL Open-Air Museum. The city center with its historic half-timbered architecture serves as the backdrop for several city festivals and markets throughout the year — the Spring Funfair is the season opener.
