Neuwied's largest city festival with around 100 hours of live music on the Luisenstraße festival mile
The Deichstadtfest is a classic summer city festival that highlights Neuwied's identity as the 'Deichstadt' (dike city) on the Rhine. For four days, the city center—especially Luisenstraße—becomes a continuous festival mile with multiple stages, bars, food stalls, showmen, and a high-frequency live music program.
The continuous approximately 100 hours of live music make the Deichstadtfest one of the most music-intensive city festivals in the region. The range spans from Schlager acts to cover bands, tribute formations, and pop acts, all the way to rock bands and occasional DJ sets. Several stages operate simultaneously, allowing visitors to switch between genres.
Since 2025—when the event had to move to Luisenstraße due to the redevelopment of the central Luisenplatz—this festival mile has established itself as the new focal point. Stalls, food trucks, cocktail bars, wine, and beer stands line the street; the stages are placed at the ends and central points.
The city of Neuwied provides free bus shuttles on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. On Thursday night from 10/11 PM, and Friday and Saturday nights from midnight/1 AM, the routes connect the festival mile with surrounding districts and municipalities. This is an important safety measure that reduces the risk associated with driving at night while improving regional accessibility.
During the day, the festival is also attractive for families; in the evenings, the audience shifts more towards adults and young adults. Showmen, diverse food options, and free admission make the Deichstadtfest easily accessible.
The city of Neuwied coordinates the program and logistics for the Deichstadtfest; the festival mile on Luisenstraße will be equipped with multiple stages, food and drink areas, security services, and sanitary facilities. The complete 2026 band lineup will be announced in Spring/Summer 2026 at neuwied.de/deichstadtfest.
