Ten days of culture in Dahlenburg — concerts, exhibitions, theatre, and readings in its 34th edition
In 2026, the Dahlenburg Culture Week celebrates its 34th edition, making it one of the oldest continuously maintained cultural formats in the Lüneburg district. Originating from a citizens' initiative in Dahlenburg in the early 1990s, the format has established itself over three decades as a unifying element for the cultural diversity of the municipality. It is supported by the Dahlenburg municipality and a network of clubs, initiatives, churches, and private individuals who contribute new programme items annually.
Unlike centralised festivals, the Culture Week thrives on its decentralisation: concerts in the church, theatre in the community centre, readings in the library or café, exhibitions in galleries and shop windows, club evenings in club rooms. Each event stands on its own, but together they form a dense programme network that leads the public across the town over the ten days. This format ensures that even smaller clubs and initiatives find a visible place in the cultural calendar.
The Culture Week's programme traditionally includes classical concerts (chamber music, church concerts, choral music), jazz and folk concerts, theatre performances by local and visiting ensembles, cabaret, readings from regional and national literature, art exhibitions, hands-on workshops, and culinary and cultural-political encounters. Some programme items are ticketed, while many offerings from clubs and churches are freely accessible or by donation.
Dahlenburg is the seat of the municipality of the same name, with around 6,500 inhabitants, and a cultural hub in the eastern Lüneburg district. The medieval town centre with St. John's Church, active clubs, schools, and church communities form the foundation for the annual Culture Week. The programme is published on the municipality's website a few weeks before it begins.
The Culture Week is a reflection of Dahlenburg's cultural diversity. Each edition is curated anew, so the programme items vary from year to year — some series return (Advent concerts in the church, theatre performances), while others set new accents each year (art exhibitions, readings, culinary encounters, new initiatives). Admission prices vary — smaller events are often free or by donation, while larger concerts and theatre evenings are ticketed.
The detailed 2026 programme will be published by the Dahlenburg municipality in the autumn. The structure follows the proven benchmarks of previous years:
