Country music and Line Dance in the Türkheim district of Irsingen
Country and Western may not be the biggest mainstream movement in Southern Germany, but it has a remarkably vibrant scene with its own festivals, bands, and Line Dance groups. Türkheim in the Unterallgäu district (Bavarian administrative region of Swabia) is one of the hubs of this scene in the Allgäu. In the district of Irsingen, one of the incorporated villages around the market town, the local music association hosts the Countryfest every year in midsummer.
The festival takes place at the Vereinsheim Irsingen — a classic Allgäu club house with a covered outdoor area and a large festival meadow. The atmosphere is familiar and communal: long tables on festival benches, beer service, sausages from the grill, accompanied by country classics as musical entertainment. Those who come in cowboy hats, boots, or Western shirts are just as welcome as anyone who just wants to spend a few relaxed summer hours with live music.
The musical focus is set by a live country band — playing country classics from Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton to modern country and country rock. The concert is accompanied by Line Dance performances: a local Line Dance group demonstrates choreographies, and all guests are invited to join in dancing — a participatory atmosphere rather than pure consumption. For country music fans and Line Dancers in southern Bavaria, the Countryfest Irsingen is a fixed date.
Türkheim is a market town with around 7,000 inhabitants in the Unterallgäu district, located in the fertile Wertach Valley between Memmingen and Buchloe. The town is primarily known for its Türkheimer Schloss (today the seat of the market administration) and its central location between the Munich–Memmingen railway line and the A96 motorway (Munich–Lindau). Irsingen is one of its districts, incorporated in 1972, with a village character and active club life centered around the Musikverein Irsingen.
While brass music, traditional costume festivals, and Alpine folklore usually dominate the Allgäu, the Countryfest Irsingen provides a distinct stylistic counterpoint. It is precisely this stylistic peculiarity that makes the festival known among country music lovers in Southern Germany — and ensures full festival benches at the Vereinsheim every year.
The Countryfest 2026 begins on Friday, August 14, at 7 p.m. at the Vereinsheim Irsingen. Live country music with classics and modern country songs, plus Line Dance performances by a local dance group — guests are explicitly invited to join in dancing. At the club stands, grilled sausages, fries, salads, as well as draft beer, lemonades, and non-alcoholic drinks will be served. Admission is free.
By car: Take the A96 motorway, exit Türkheim, then follow local roads towards Irsingen (approx. 5 minutes). Free parking available at the Vereinsheim. Public transport: Türkheim (Bay) train station on the Munich–Memmingen line. No bus service on festival evenings from the station — car or bicycle recommended.

Festival starts at 7 p.m. at the Vereinsheim Irsingen.
