Cloppenburg City Festival — the big city festival at the end of September
The Cloppenburg City Festival is one of the most traditional city festivals in the Oldenburg Münsterland region and one of the largest end-of-summer events in western Lower Saxony. With its 47th edition, the festival looks back on almost five decades of history. Every year on the last weekend of September, the city center transforms into a continuous festival mile from Thursday to Saturday.
Music on 9 Stages — until 1:00 AM
The musical concept is exceptionally extensive: 9 stages at various locations in the city center — from the main square to side streets and small alleys. The program covers all styles: Pop, Rock, Schlager, Cover Bands, DJ Sets, Dance Bands. Music, dancing, and celebrating continue until 1:00 AM. A stage-hopping tour through the city is on the program for every City Festival weekend.
Family Day, Citycross, and City Run
In addition to the music, three fixed program components are part of the City Festival:
- Family Day on Friday from 2:30 PM with activities, children's carousels, face painting, and bouncy castles
- Citycross Bike Race in the City Park — a spirited cross-country race for amateur and licensed riders
- City Run — a fun run for all ages through the heart of the city
This mix of music, sports, and family makes the City Festival a large, intergenerational event.
Cloppenburg in the Oldenburg Münsterland
Cloppenburg is the district town of the Cloppenburg district in the Oldenburg Münsterland region. With about 35,000 inhabitants, it is an important medium-sized center in western Lower Saxony — also known for the Museumsdorf Cloppenburg, one of Germany's most significant open-air museums. The City Festival reflects the economic and cultural vitality of the region and is THE meeting point at the end of September.
