Classics on the Volcano – Open-Air Concerts at Gemündener Maar

Classics on the Volcano is the musical staging of summer in Daun. Four concerts at Gemündener Maar bring big band sounds, Schlager anthems, Kölsch rock, and pop to a natural setting that is unique in Germany: the former volcanic crater basin of one of the Daun Maare.

2026 Lineup – Four Concerts, Four Worlds

The 2026 edition's program features a top-class lineup with a broad stylistic range:

• Friday, June 26, 2026, 8:30 PM: Der Udonaut & die Paniker – the popular Udo Lindenberg tribute show, masterfully recreating the work of the panic rocker.
• Saturday, June 27, 2026, 8:30 PM: Bundeswehr Big Band feat. Tom Gaebel – the elite formation of German military music meets the charismatic crooner Tom Gaebel.
• Friday, July 3, 2026, 8:30 PM: Cat Ballou with Scharmöör – the successful Cologne-based band led by Oliver Niesen, with their mix of pop, rock, and Cologne anthems, accompanied by the opening act Scharmöör.
• Saturday, July 4, 2026, 8:30 PM: Max Mutzke & Rüdiger Baldauf Band – the vocal wonder Max Mutzke (My Star) with the big band formation led by Rüdiger Baldauf.

Admission Starts at 6:30 PM Daily

The gates open two hours before the concert begins each day, allowing visitors to arrive at their leisure, get settled, and soak in the unique volcanic maar ambiance before the show.

The Gemündener Maar

The Gemündener Maar is one of the three famous Daun Maare, along with the Schalkenmehrener and Weinfelder Maar. It was formed about 30,000 years ago during volcanic eruptions and is now a clear crater lake with a bathing area and hiking trails. As a natural stage, the maar offers spectacular acoustics and an unparalleled atmosphere.

The town of Daun (with Forum Daun) is the organizer of the Classics on the Volcano series. With this concert series, Daun positions itself as a cultural focal point of the Vulkaneifel region, making its unique geological heritage culturally accessible as well.
