City runs have a special appeal in Germany. They combine athletic performance with the urban experience, lead through street sections that are otherwise difficult to access, and create a special atmosphere of competition and Volksfest (public festival). The Citylauf Leer has been a fixture in the East Frisian running scene for 32 years.
Long Tradition
With its 32nd edition in 2026, the run looks back on a remarkable history. Thousands of runners have raced through Leer's city center over the years – hobby athletes, club runners, ambitious competitors, and families with their children. This continuity is a testament to the dedicated organizing team and the high acceptance of the run.
Routes for Every Level
The route concept is broad. The 10 km is aimed at experienced runners looking for an ambitious competition course. The 5 km offers a low-threshold entry that is also achievable for beginners. The corporate run brings company teams together, combining sports activity with team building. The children's run is for the youngest participants and lays the foundation for a future in running.
City Center as the Course
The routes lead through Leer's city center – Mühlenstraße, Denkmalplatz, historic old town. This urban backdrop gives the run its special character. Spectators have good sightlines and can cheer on the runners from various points.
BSV Bingum as Organizer
BSV Bingum bears the main responsibility for the organization. Over the years, the club has developed a well-rehearsed organizational structure that professionally supports thousands of runners annually. Registration, bib distribution, timing, catering – everything is organized at a high level.
Atmosphere and Volksfest
The Citylauf is not just a competition, but also a Volksfest. A supporting program with music, food stalls, and social gatherings creates the atmosphere of a full day in the city center. Families accompany their runners, clubs meet, and the city celebrates its run.
