The big summer city festival in the heart of Salzgitter's Lebenstedt district with funfair, stages, and Sunday shopping
Every year in mid-August, the CityFest transforms the city center of Salzgitter-Lebenstedt into a vibrant meeting point. The organizer is CityLebenstedt e.V., based at Fischzug 16, an association of local retailers, restaurateurs, and service providers who are committed to revitalizing the city center. With its summer, autumn, and Christmas markets, as well as Sunday shopping events, the association significantly shapes Lebenstedt's event calendar.
Throughout the weekend, two stages provide a diverse musical program. Cover bands, Schlager artists, regional emerging talents, and DJs take turns, ensuring there's something for every musical taste. The central main stage is traditionally located in the Fischzug/Kreuzplatz area, while a second stage enhances the promenade character throughout the pedestrian zone.
A special attraction of the CityFest is the accompanying funfair. On the parking areas around the city center, showmen set up a diverse range of rides, including a Ferris wheel with views over the city center, a roller coaster, bumper cars, children's carousels, and classic fairground stalls with sweets, shooting galleries, and games of chance.
Special areas of the festival mile are dedicated to the youngest visitors. Here, they can craft, get their faces painted, participate, and play. Local clubs, social institutions, and youth organizations present themselves and offer creative activities for children of all ages.
Following the actual festival weekend, Lebenstedt's retailers invite you to a Sunday shopping event on Sunday, August 17, 2026, from 1 PM to 6 PM. This combination of a Volksfest (public festival) and shopping experience makes the CityFest an economic driver for local businesses and strengthens the city center as a regional supply hub.
For 2026, CityLebenstedt e.V. is planning another extensive edition of its summer city festival. Two stages will provide almost continuous live music over the three festival days, while the parallel funfair, with family carousels, a Ferris wheel, a roller coaster, and fairground stalls, offers a classic Volksfest experience. Food stalls will offer everything from classic bratwurst to international specialties and sweet temptations.
The combination with the subsequent Sunday shopping event is particularly attractive: families can wind down the festival weekend and stroll through Lebenstedt's city center in a relaxed atmosphere the following day, as shops will be open on August 17 from 1 PM to 6 PM.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
