Anniversary tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of Germany's most famous circus
In 1976, Bernhard Paul, together with André Heller, founded Circus-Theater Roncalli, revolutionizing the German circus landscape. From the outset, Roncalli saw itself as a total work of art: poetic, theatrical, musical — and with the explicit renunciation of animal acts, which is a matter of course today but was groundbreaking at the time. With lovingly restored wagons, its own live band, artists from all over the world, and an unmistakable aesthetic in the style of the 1920s, Roncalli became a cultural phenomenon and has shaped German circus for over four decades.
The 2026 tour is entirely dedicated to the 50th anniversary. Bernhard Paul and his team have conceived a show that combines the highlights of Roncalli's history with new productions. Acrobats from Europe's leading circus academies, clowns, jugglers, magicians, aerial artists, and a modern animal hologram effect — Roncalli was one of the first circuses worldwide to replace traditional animal acts with three-dimensional holograms — come together to delight generations of circus fans.
The famous Roncalli tent is more than just a venue: it's part of the show. With lovingly designed wagons, wagon houses, a historic ambiance, and its own atmosphere, Roncalli transforms the Schützenplatz Braunschweig into its own world for a good two weeks. Families, school classes, seniors, and circus fans of all ages are welcome. The circus grounds can be explored before and after the shows, with small snack stands offering classics like popcorn, cotton candy, and roasted almonds.
Tickets for the Braunschweig engagement are available through the official Roncalli website roncalli.de as well as through well-known ticket agencies. Afternoon and evening performances are offered on various days. Demand is typically high for anniversary tours — early booking is recommended.
The 2026 tour is the most important in the company's history and marks its 50th anniversary since its founding by Bernhard Paul and André Heller in 1976. The Braunschweig engagement is one of the most significant stops in Northern Germany.
