A Contemplative Advent Market

Anyone looking for a Christmas market in Sankt Augustin or the Rhein-Sieg district that is not loud, not large, and not touristy will end up at the Christmas Market in the Cloister Garden of the Steyler Missionaries. The organizing committee – an initiative of Sankt Augustin citizens around Stefanie Pfeiffer and Beate Meienbrock – describes their goal as: "a contemplative Christmas market in a special atmosphere, by and with Sankt Augustin citizens." And that's exactly what it is.

Venue: The Cloister Garden

The venue is the Cloister Garden around the St. Augustin Mission House – one of the most important houses of the Steyler Missionaries (Societas Verbi Divini, SVD). The garden is decorated with wooden huts, fairy lights, and campfires. There is mulled wine, gingerbread, bratwurst, arts and crafts, and occasionally products from the Steyler's worldwide mission stations. An angel choir and brass music accompany the weekend.

Ecumenical Service and Program

One of the hallmarks is the ecumenical service, which is celebrated every Sunday at 10:30 AM in the St. Augustin Cloister Church – a market with genuine spiritual anchoring, not as a label, but as a lived practice. In addition, there are readings from Advent literature, workshops for children, and craft activities.

Date 2026 – Not Yet Confirmed

The market is traditionally held on the 1st Advent weekend. In 2025, it took place on November 29 and 30; the exact date for 2026 has not yet been publicly communicated at the time of research. Sankt Augustin and the Steyler Missionaries

Sankt Augustin is located in the Rhein-Sieg district east of Bonn. The St. Augustin Mission House of the Steyler Missionaries has housed a college (today: Philosophical-Theological College SVD) and an international student dormitory since 1913. The community is multicultural – this is also reflected in the market, which brings a subtle touch of world mission to the Rhineland.
