Advent magic on the market square in front of the Christuskirche in Harpstedt
The Harpstedt Christmas Market is one of the most beautiful small Advent events in the southern district of Oldenburg. The Evangelical Lutheran Christuskirche congregation is the organizer, and with great volunteer effort, they make the second weekend of Advent a festive highlight in Harpstedt's calendar. The backdrop of the historic Christuskirche, illuminated fir trees, and the market square creates an atmosphere that attracts locals and visitors from surrounding communities alike.
The musical contributions of the local brass choir, which greets visitors with classic Advent and Christmas carols, are at the heart of the program. The children from the forest kindergarten and the Harpstedter Prager bring a colorful piece of home to the stage. A special highlight for the youngest guests is the visit from Santa Claus, who distributes small gifts and leads sing-alongs.
The food stalls deliberately focus on regional products and North German specialties. Freshly baked tarte flambée, smoked trout from local waters, game dishes from the forests of the Wildeshauser Geest, hearty kale soup, and sweet waffles are all part of the offerings, as are mulled wine, punch, and children's punch. Arts and crafts stalls present decorations, gift ideas, and handmade Advent items.
Unlike commercially oriented large markets, the Harpstedt Christmas Market sees itself as a community meeting place. The proceeds from mulled wine sales and individual activities benefit church and social projects. This combination of Advent spirit, lived neighborliness, and social commitment makes the market a firm fixture in Harpstedt's annual calendar.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring and autumn. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: The market opens on Saturday in the late afternoon and invites you for an atmospheric evening, while on Sunday it invites you for a cozy family visit from early afternoon until dusk.
The focus is on musical contributions, the appearance of Santa Claus, and the gastronomic offerings with an emphasis on regional North German products.
Program updates will be published on the website of the Christuskirche congregation Harpstedt.
