Christmas market in the historic Baroque old town of Kleine Residenz Kirchheimbolanden with over 50 stalls and a free ice rink
The Christkindlmarkt in Kirchheimbolanden is one of the best-known and most visited Christmas markets in Nordpfalz. The historic Baroque old town of Kleine Residenz provides a unique backdrop for a three-day Advent experience with over 50 stalls, a free ice rink, and an extensive supporting program.
In 2026, the market will run on the 2nd Advent weekend from Friday, December 4th to Sunday, December 6th. Opening on Friday at 5 p.m. Exhibitors gather on Römerplatz and in the surrounding alleys, a 100 m² ice rink is available free of charge. Advent music, brass bands, and a visit from St. Nicholas complement the program.
The historic Baroque old town of Kirchheimbolanden is one of the most beautiful old town ensembles in Rhineland-Palatinate. The former residential town of the Princes of Nassau-Weilburg boasts a magnificent castle complex, a Baroque town church, well-kept squares, and cobblestone alleys. In Advent, this backdrop transforms into a particularly atmospheric Christmas world with fairy lights, fir greenery, and festive lighting.
The Christkindlmarkt comprises over 50 stalls offering a wide range of items: Advent decorations and Christmas decor, arts and crafts and gift items, mulled wine and punch, bratwurst and potato pancakes, gingerbread and Christmas stollen, chestnuts and stick bread. The selection is high-quality and diverse, with many stalls run by clubs, initiatives, or private individuals.
A special feature of the KiBo Christkindlmarkt is the 100 m² ice rink, which can be used free of charge. It attracts families with children from the entire region. The combination of a Christmas market and ice skating is a unique experience and makes a visit to the market a multi-hour pleasure. Ice skates can be rented on-site.
Advent music, performances by brass bands and choirs, a visit from St. Nicholas, and possibly nativity plays or contemplative readings complement the program. The atmosphere is classically Christmassy – atmospheric, cozy, far from a commercial mega-format. The market is known beyond state borders and attracts visitors from Hesse, Saarland, and all of Rhineland-Palatinate.
