The Soundscape of Chorin Monastery

The Chorin Cistercian Monastery is considered one of the most important brick Gothic architectural monuments in Northern Germany. Located in the Barnim district, about 60 km northeast of Berlin, the monastery, founded in 1273, regularly hosts concerts and festivals. CHORINale is one of them – a fixed date in early summer since 2022.

Fifth Edition

In 2026, CHORINale will celebrate its 5th edition. From June 5th to 7th, the Brandenburgisches Kammerorchester Eberswalde invites you to three afternoon concerts in the monastery. Each day brings a different program – the concerts start at 4 PM and last about two hours.

Three Themes, Three Worlds

On Friday, June 5th, the program is "Berlin bleibt doch Berlin." The orchestra dedicates itself to Berlin operetta and song composers of the early 20th century: Paul Lincke, Walter Kollo, and their contemporaries. Berlin charm between operetta and cabaret.

On Saturday, June 6th, two famous families meet for a "musical family reunion": the Mozart family and the Strauss family. With classical charm and Viennese waltz humor, the program combines works from both dynasties.

The finale on Sunday, June 7th, is a popular mix "From Gospel to Queen." The orchestra accompanies the choir of the Barnim Music School and the Westend Gospelsingers from Eberswalde, who are celebrating their 30th anniversary. The program includes: Gospel classics, pop, and rock ballads in symphonic arrangements.

Barnim and Brandenburg

CHORINale is one of the three major sound events that the Chorin Monastery offers year after year – alongside the traditional Choriner Musiksommer and individual special concerts. In the state of Brandenburg, in the Barnim district, the monastery has established itself as a cultural center with a reach far beyond the region. Anyone who has experienced the acoustics of the nave once will return.
