Gothic Chapel in Adenauerpark

The Gothic Chapel is an architectural curiosity in Speyer. The small sandstone building in the High Gothic style (approx. 13th/14th century) originally stood elsewhere in Speyer — as a cemetery chapel. In the 1970s, it was dismantled stone by stone and rebuilt in Adenauerpark to save it from demolition. Since then, it has stood as a small, solitary architectural feature in the park landscape of Adenauerpark and serves as a venue.

Adenauerpark as a Summer Venue

Adenauerpark — named after the first Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer — is one of Speyer's largest inner-city green spaces. In summer, the park is a central place for residents and visitors of Speyer. The Gothic Chapel provides a cultural anchor point in this green environment — the summer chamber concerts combine experiencing nature and enjoying music.

Summer Concert Series

The 'Chamber Music in the Gothic Chapel' series is an established summer concert series in the city of Speyer. Concerts take place on several Sundays between July and August — usually in the afternoon or early evening. In 2024, the series ran from July to September; for 2026, the exact dates have not yet been published. A similar structure is expected.

Speyer Choirs and Orchestras

The performers are mainly from the Speyer music scene — choirs from church parishes, the Speyer Chamber Orchestra, independent ensembles, soloists from the municipal music school. This local connection gives the series a special character — it is not only a cultural offering but also a showcase of Speyer's musical life.

Free Admission

Admission to all concerts in the series is free. This accessibility is programmatic — the chamber music series deliberately aims to reach a broad audience, including park strollers, tourists, and Speyer residents who do not regularly attend classical concerts. The small chapel space offers about 50 seats — an intimate concert atmosphere.
