Vocational and Training Fair of the Birkenfeld District with over 85 Companies
The Idar-Oberstein Career Fair is one of the most important event formats of the 'deinbir' initiative, through which the Birkenfeld district aims to introduce young people to career prospects in the region. Rural areas like the Hunsrück and the Westricher Hochfläche face the challenge of retaining trained specialists and interesting the next generation in regional employers. The career fair is a direct response to this task.
For two days, over eighty-five companies from the district and the region will be present – from traditional gemstone grinding crafts, medium-sized industrial companies, high-tech and optics firms, craft businesses, logistics and construction companies, health and care facilities, banks, insurance companies, IT service providers, to authorities and educational institutions. More than one hundred vocational training occupations will be presented, supplemented by dual study programs in cooperation with the Universities of Trier and Birkenfeld.
A new feature for 2026 is an AI-powered fair matching service: visitors can create a short profile of their interests, strengths, and career aspirations before and during the fair. A matching algorithm will then suggest suitable companies and compile a plan with stand recommendations. This way, the fair addresses the problem that pupils, in particular, can be overwhelmed by a large number of exhibitors and may not know where to start. The fair opens on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (focus on families and private visitors) and on Monday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (focus on school classes and career orientation).
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: on Sunday, the focus is on families, private visitors, and career changers; on Monday, school classes visit the fair in organized blocks. Accompanying lectures, application training sessions, trial tests, and small workshops will be offered in a separate lecture zone. The 'deinbir' initiative coordinates on-site registrations, AI matching, and the supervision of school classes.
