Falkenstein Castle Ruins
Falkenstein Castle ruins, near the municipality of the same name in the Donnersberg district, are among the most impressive medieval structures in Northern Palatinate. The castle was built in the 12th century and was one of the largest complexes in the region. The Burgbelebung follows the concept of "living history": Performing groups slip into historical roles, live for a weekend in medieval attire, set up tents on the castle grounds, and demonstrate medieval crafts, combat techniques, music, and ways of life. This creates an interactive experience for visitors – not just a show, but also an encounter with the performers.
Program Elements
Combat demonstrations showcase the sword and weapon techniques of medieval knights and soldiers. Castle tours explain the architecture and history of the site. At the children's archery, the youngest visitors can try their hand at the bow. The evening fire show dramatically illuminates the castle with torches and fire.
