A Spa Town Celebrates Itself

Bad Liebenwerda is Brandenburg's only state-recognized mineral spa — and this is not coincidentally the starting point for the municipality's most important town festival. For 32 years, the Brunnenfest has combined spa tradition with a Volksfest (popular festival) that transforms the market square, Roßmarkt, and city center into a festive backdrop for three days. For decades, it has been linked with the Elsterlauf, which will enter its 46th edition in 2026, making it one of the most traditional popular runs in southern Brandenburg.

Three Days of Programme

Friday, May 29th, 2026: The showmen's park on the market square opens at 4:00 PM. A house party starts at 8:00 PM at the former AOK parking lot. Saturday, May 30th: Official opening at 2:00 PM on the Roßmarkt. The stage will feature "Fancy live", Tanzladen 04, Tiefklang, and DJ Jukebox Thommes. The highlight at 9:00 PM is the concert by the Smokie Revival Band — a reunion with the hits of the British rock band Smokie ("Living next door to Alice", "If you think you know how to love me"). Festivities until 1:00 AM.

46th Elsterlauf on Sunday

On Sunday, May 31st, 2026, the 46th Elsterlauf starts at 8:00 AM — an open popular run with various distances for children, families, and ambitious runners. From 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, there will be Sunday shopping, and the city center will be in full festival mode. At 3:00 PM, the Niederlausitzer Blasmusikanten will play a final concert for relaxation — before the festival concludes on Sunday evening.

Bad Liebenwerda — Spa Town in the Elbe-Elster Land

Bad Liebenwerda is located in the Elbe-Elster district in the southernmost tip of Brandenburg, directly on the Schwarze Elster river. The town is a spa resort, thanks to the sulfurous mineral springs from the 19th century, and at the same time a traditional medium-sized town with a baroque castle. Mineralquellen Bad Liebenwerda — the brand is known throughout Germany — is now the largest regional sponsor of the town festival.

Admission and Atmosphere

Free admission. Food and drinks available at the stands. The Brunnenfest is classically popular, without pretension, but with genuine festive conviviality. Visitors to the Brunnenfest can combine the Sunday with a tour of the spa park grounds or a walk along the Schwarze Elster.
