Enjoy regional products in the Hanseatic city — three days of market, farm produce, and Sunday shopping in the Lippegarten
The Bruchmarkt is one of the oldest and most popular market traditions in Ostwestfalen. The name refers to the original date held on the 3rd Sunday in October ("Bruchsonntag") — today, the festival is firmly anchored in the event calendar of the Hanseatic city of Lemgo. Lemgo Marketing e.V. bundles the various program points of the market, farm produce, and Sunday shopping into a packed weekend that attracts tens of thousands of visitors from Lippe and surrounding districts every year.
The Lippegarten is a historic city park directly on the loop of the Lippe River, framed by the medieval city wall and the baroque architecture of the Hanseatic city. When the first stalls are set up on Sunday morning, a special atmosphere arises here: freshly pressed apple juice, pumpkins of all sizes, regional sausages, cheese from Lipperland, honey, schnapps, game products, mushrooms, wild herbs — almost everything directly from the producer. The 40 farms are hand-picked and some have received multiple awards.
Lemgo is one of Germany's most beautiful Renaissance cities and was part of the Hanseatic League — which can still be seen today in the richly decorated bourgeois house architecture on Mittelstraße. Those who visit the Bruchmarkt should take time for a stroll through the old town: the Hexenbürgermeisterhaus, the Town Hall with the Schauerker, and St. Mary's Church shape the cityscape. Lemgo is home to the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences (TH OWL) and has a population of around 41,000.
Unlike purely consumer markets, the Bruchmarkt is a symbiosis of three worlds: a flea and antique market for bargain hunters, a farmers' market for food lovers, and Sunday shopping for the retailers in the city center. This combination is unusually dense in Lippe — and makes the weekend a perfect opportunity for families to spend a whole day in the Hanseatic city.
The 2026 Bruchmarkt combines a flea market, farmers' market, and Sunday shopping into a classic Lemgo autumn festival. Organized by Lemgo Marketing e.V., it transforms the main streets of the Hanseatic city — Mittelstraße to Marktplatz — into a market boulevard and opens the Lippegarten on Sunday for around 40 direct marketers from Lipperland.
