About Bruchmarkt

From October 16th to 18th, 2026, the city center of the Hanseatic city of Lemgo will transform for the annual Bruchmarkt — one of the most important autumn markets in the Lippe district. Under the motto "Enjoy regional products," a boulevard of market stalls will stretch from Mittelstraße to the market square on Saturday, while Sunday is family day with a farmers' market in the Lippegarten (around 40 farms from Lippe), a historical tractor exhibition at Ostertor, and Sunday shopping until 6 PM. The bus service is free all day Sunday. Lemgo Marketing organizes the festival as a tribute to the region's agriculture and craftsmanship — and to the enjoyment of seasonal products directly from the producer.

A Market with Over 300 Years of History

The Bruchmarkt is one of the oldest and most popular market traditions in Ostwestfalen. The name refers to the original date held on the 3rd Sunday in October ("Bruchsonntag") — today, the festival is firmly anchored in the event calendar of the Hanseatic city of Lemgo. Lemgo Marketing e.V. bundles the various program points of the market, farm produce, and Sunday shopping into a packed weekend that attracts tens of thousands of visitors from Lippe and surrounding districts every year.

Program 2026 — "Enjoy Regional Products"

Saturday, October 17, 2026 (11 AM–6 PM)

  • Grand Market along Mittelstraße, Marktplatz, and surrounding alleys with stalls of all kinds
  • Children's Program in Mittelstraße: professional face painting, balloon modeling, and bubble show
  • Children's Carousel on the Marktplatz

Sunday, October 18, 2026 — Sunday Shopping (11 AM–6 PM)

  • Farmers' Market in the Lippegarten with around 40 farms and direct marketers from Lippe — a "colorful palette of freshly harvested foods" (Lemgo Marketing)
  • Sunday Shopping in Lemgo's city center from 1 PM to 6 PM
  • Car Exhibition by local dealers from 1 PM onwards
  • Historical Tractor Exhibition at Ostertor
  • Free Bus Service throughout the city all day Sunday

Lippegarten — The Most Beautiful Place for the Farmers' Market

The Lippegarten is a historic city park directly on the loop of the Lippe River, framed by the medieval city wall and the baroque architecture of the Hanseatic city. When the first stalls are set up on Sunday morning, a special atmosphere arises here: freshly pressed apple juice, pumpkins of all sizes, regional sausages, cheese from Lipperland, honey, schnapps, game products, mushrooms, wild herbs — almost everything directly from the producer. The 40 farms are hand-picked and some have received multiple awards.

Lemgo as a Hanseatic City

Lemgo is one of Germany's most beautiful Renaissance cities and was part of the Hanseatic League — which can still be seen today in the richly decorated bourgeois house architecture on Mittelstraße. Those who visit the Bruchmarkt should take time for a stroll through the old town: the Hexenbürgermeisterhaus, the Town Hall with the Schauerker, and St. Mary's Church shape the cityscape. Lemgo is home to the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences (TH OWL) and has a population of around 41,000.

What Makes the Bruchmarkt Special

Unlike purely consumer markets, the Bruchmarkt is a symbiosis of three worlds: a flea and antique market for bargain hunters, a farmers' market for food lovers, and Sunday shopping for the retailers in the city center. This combination is unusually dense in Lippe — and makes the weekend a perfect opportunity for families to spend a whole day in the Hanseatic city.

Bruchmarkt — edition 2026

The 2026 Bruchmarkt combines a flea market, farmers' market, and Sunday shopping into a classic Lemgo autumn festival. Organized by Lemgo Marketing e.V., it transforms the main streets of the Hanseatic city — Mittelstraße to Marktplatz — into a market boulevard and opens the Lippegarten on Sunday for around 40 direct marketers from Lipperland.
