36th Brezelfestlauf on Speyer's Brezelfest Sunday: Main Run 7.3 km, FitLine Fun Run, Children's and Bambini Run in front of the Imperial Cathedral
The Brezelfestlauf is the sporting accompanying event of the Speyerer Brezelfest and one of the most traditional fun runs in the Vorderpfalz region. The organizer is RC Vorwärts Speyer (RSV Speyer), which is also one of the most important cycling and athletics hubs in the region.
The 2026 edition marks the 36th edition of the Brezelfestlauf – making it one of Germany's traditional fun runs. It takes place every year on the Sunday of the Brezelfest, parallel to the big Brezelfest parade in the afternoon.
The start and finish point is Domplatz – directly in front of the world-famous Speyer Imperial Cathedral, the largest preserved Romanesque church building in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981. This spectacular backdrop makes the Brezelfestlauf a visually impressive experience: Runners start in the early morning hours directly under the massive towers of the cathedral, a sight that lends a special atmosphere to any fun run.
The Brezelfestlauf offers four distances that appeal to all target groups:
The first start is at 9:00 AM – the Brezelfestlauf begins before the main Brezelfest activities are in full swing on Sunday. The order of starts will be communicated by the organizer in good time.
RC Vorwärts Speyer (RSV Speyer) is one of Speyer's largest sports clubs with sections for cycling, athletics, and other sports. The Brezelfestlauf is one of the club's most important events, and the entry fees help finance the club's activities. Registrations are made via the online system runtix.com.
Speyer, with its approximately 51,000 inhabitants and historic city center, offers ideal conditions for a fun run: flat topography, well-developed city center streets, and picturesque scenery with the Imperial Cathedral, the old town, and the Rhine riverbank. The Brezelfestlauf utilizes this urban backdrop, making running an experience.
The 2026 edition continues the 36-year tradition of the Brezelfestlauf. Thousands of runners are expected, from ambitious amateur athletes and families to toddlers in the Bambini Run. The combination of popular sport and a large folk festival makes the Brezelfestlauf unique: those who finish the main run can then head straight to the festival grounds and experience the Brezelfest parade starting at 1:30 PM.
