Sporty Start to the Year

While most running events don't start until spring, the Braunschweiger Neujahrslauf deliberately sets a precedent for year-round grassroots sports. The run takes place at the end of January and is aimed at everyone who wants to get moving again quickly after the holidays. The choice of distances makes it particularly attractive: beginners will find a suitable competition in the 5 km run, ambitious runners can test themselves in the half-marathon, and the 10 km race is the classic middle distance.

Three Distances, One Atmosphere

All three runs start and end at the Naturfreundeheim on the Spielmannsteich, a traditional meeting place for nature lovers and athletes in the south of Braunschweig. The course runs on paved paths around the lake and through the adjacent forest areas. The winter conditions create a special atmosphere: there is often snow, sometimes the ground is frozen, occasionally there is mild winter sunshine. Good footwear with sufficient grip is essential.

Medal for All Finishers

Every participant who crosses the finish line receives a finisher medal. The organizer thus honors the personal effort that a winter start always entails. Timing is electronic, and results are published online promptly. The Naturfreundeheim offers changing rooms, sanitary facilities, and afterwards a cozy get-together with warm drinks and snacks.

Organized for Athletes from the Whole Region

The Braunschweiger Neujahrslauf is managed by a dedicated organization team and uses established platforms like Davengo for online registration. With the three different distances and its central location in Braunschweig, the run attracts participants from all over Lower Saxony, from the Harz to the Lüneburg Heath, from Wolfsburg to Hanover.
