Largest Volksfest (popular fair) in the region with rides, beer tent, and fireworks
The Braunschweig Spring Fair has a long tradition and has been a firm fixture in the event calendar of the 'Löwenstadt' (Lion City) for generations. It takes place twice a year – in spring (April/May) and in summer (August/September). The 2026 Spring Fair runs from April 17 to May 3 and utilizes the full expanse of the Schützenplatz, one of the largest event spaces in the city center.
The offerings range from classic carousels for the little ones to the Ferris wheel, "Wellenflug" (wave flyer), and dodgems, to high-speed, high-tech rides like looping coasters, thrill rides, and free-fall towers. The 2026 attraction is Maximus – a new, impressive ride making its debut in Braunschweig. In addition, haunted houses, mirror mazes, shooting galleries, lottery stalls, and throwing games attract the crowds.
Live bands play in the large beer tent on weekends, while Wednesdays feature Schlager (German pop music) and family programs. The range of food and drinks is vast: Bratwurst, Reibekuchen (potato pancakes), candied almonds, cotton candy, crêpes, pizza, burgers, mushrooms, sweet and savory treats in all variations. The traditional food stalls are complemented by modern street food offerings.
On Sunday, April 19, 2026, Eintracht-Day takes place: fans of the Bundesliga club Eintracht Braunschweig receive special discounts and promotions. The grand finale is the spectacular fireworks display on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 9:30 PM – a spectacle with music and pyrotechnics that annually draws thousands of spectators to the Schützenplatz and its surroundings.
The Spring Fair is particularly family-friendly during the day, while a lively atmosphere develops on the grounds in the evenings. Admission to the grounds is free; individual rides and attractions cost between approximately €3 and €10 per ride. Family tickets and special offers are available on various days.
The 2026 Spring Fair brings the full spectrum of modern showman culture to the Schützenplatz, combining classic fair tradition with current high-tech rides.
