5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, and half marathon with start and finish in the city center – Braunschweig's running festival in October
The Braunschweiger Lauftage have developed into one of the most important running events in Southeast Lower Saxony. Three distances are offered, appealing to different target groups:
Unlike purely park- or forest-based runs, the Braunschweiger Lauftage deliberately focus on an urban route: the start and finish are in the city center, and the half marathon route leads through historic quarters, past the cathedral, town hall, and palace. This gives runners the feeling of a small city marathon.
With around 2,000 participants, the event is both a folk run and a competition: all finishers receive a specially designed medal, and the top 3 in each distance in their age and gender categories are officially honored. Timing is done by chip.
There is a catering and supply zone in the start and finish area, live moderation, and music. The city center will be temporarily closed for the half marathon – this increases attention for the event and creates a lively cityscape.
The 2026 edition will take place on Sunday, October 25, 2026. The exact start times for each distance will be communicated by the organizer in due course; traditionally, the half marathon starts in the morning, with the shorter distances following in the late morning and early afternoon.
A total of around 2,000 runners are expected. All finishers will receive a specially designed medal.
