Bar Hopping as a Cultural Format

The Bottrop Pub Night has been a central format of Bottrop's nightlife since 2008. What began as a small event in seven venues has developed into one of the region's most successful pub crawl festivals — with annual editions in spring and autumn.

15 Bars, One Pass — Live Music Everywhere

The concept is as simple as it is effective: With a single admission pass, you get access to around 15 participating bars, restaurants, and cultural venues in Bottrop's city center. Each venue presents its own live music — rock, pop, jazz, blues, cover bands, singer-songwriters — and you can switch between locations as you please. The Bottrop Pub Night describes itself with the slogan "The Night Goes On".

Opening in the Kulturkirche

Just like the spring edition, the autumn edition traditionally opens in the Kulturkirche Heilig Kreuz — a deconsecrated church building that now serves as a venue. From 10 PM, the audience then spreads out to all 15 venues along Gladbecker Straße and the adjacent side streets.

Bottrop as a Festival City

Bottrop is located in the northern Ruhr area between Gelsenkirchen, Oberhausen, and Gladbeck. With the Orgel Plus Festival in January and the two Pub Nights per year, the city has clearly established itself as a festival and event city. The Bottrop Pub Night is also very popular due to its familiar atmosphere — many regular guests travel from all over the Ruhr area.

Local Bands and Cover Artists

A special feature of the festival: Most bands come from the Ruhr area itself. The spectrum ranges from established cover bands and singer-songwriters to young jazz combos. This makes the Pub Night also a platform for the local music scene — many acts play in the participating bars throughout the year and use the Pub Night as a central showcase.

Tips for Your Visit

The opening concert in the Kulturkirche Heilig Kreuz is worthwhile — the deconsecrated church building offers a special acoustic and atmospheric experience. Afterwards, a specific bar plan is recommended: With 15 locations and only one night, you have to set priorities. Gladbecker Straße is the central axis from which most bars are accessible. Those who don't want to miss the last bus home can combine the Pub Night with a hotel stay in Bottrop city.
