Three Evenings of Blues and Boogie-Woogie in the Art Gallery
The Kunsthalle Kühlungsborn is located on the front line of Ostseeallee 48, overlooking the sea. During the day, it's an exhibition hall for contemporary art, and in the evenings, it regularly transforms into a concert venue — with special acoustics and a maximum capacity of around 100 guests. The atmosphere is intimate, almost like a living room concert, but with a sea view from the windows.
The Blues & Boogie Days focus the genre into a long weekend, avoiding the typical festival cliché of a large stage. Instead, each evening follows its own sonic direction — Boogie-Woogie and classic blues on the first night, Acoustic Blues Guitar Revue on the second, and a Blues Piano Quartet with harmonica on the third. This allows for a comparison of stylistic nuances that would be lost at a traditional blues festival.
Despite the small hall, the Kunsthalle hosts top-tier artists. Henry Heggen is considered one of Germany's defining blues voices; Bad Temper Joe regularly tours with his Acoustic Blues Guitar Revue; Keith Dunn from Boston, USA, plays harmonica, and Christian Rannenberg is among Germany's leading blues pianists, with Tobias Kock (guitar) and Klaas Wendling (bass) completing the Blues Mood Quartett.
The Blues & Boogie Days are part of the Kunsthalle's ongoing concert calendar, which also includes a guitar festival and occasional classical, jazz, and world music evenings. Tickets are exclusively available in advance through the Kunsthalle's booking system.
