Firefighters, Police, THW, and Aid Organizations Present Themselves Live
The Blaulichttag Wilhelmshaven puts the work of the fire department, police, and numerous aid organizations at the center of the city's attention. One day a year, Valoisplatz and the adjacent Gotthilf-Hagen-Platz transform into an open platform where the helpers in blue present themselves—with vehicles, equipment, and many hands-on activities for children and adults. The day is both an information and experience festival.
The list of participating organizations is impressive: The professional and volunteer fire department of Wilhelmshaven with fire engines and special vehicles, the police with patrol cars and special units, the Technical Relief Agency (THW) with rescue equipment, the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe with ambulances and medical equipment, an ADAC rescue helicopter that sometimes even lands, as well as numerous other aid organizations. Each stand offers its own hands-on activities: Children can climb into fire trucks, aim hoses at cans, simulate CPR on a training dummy, or complete a small rescue exercise.
Parallel to the Blaulichttag, an accompanying exhibition will run from May 19 to June 9, 2026, in the NordseePassage. It informs about the work of aid organizations, displays historical vehicles and equipment, and delves deeper into topics that can only be briefly touched upon on the festival day itself. This transforms the Blaulichttag into a multi-week awareness event that brings the deserved appreciation to the helpers in blue while simultaneously offering families an extraordinary day of experience in the city.
The 2026 edition continues the proven format and is complemented by the accompanying exhibition in the NordseePassage, which runs for several weeks.
The Blaulichttag is explicitly designed for families. Children experience the helpers in blue up close and playfully discover their work.
The exact program for 2026—which organizations will be present with which vehicles and hands-on activities—will be published by the City of Wilhelmshaven. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
