Blossom Festival in the Rhododendron Garden by the Sandteich pond during peak bloom in late May with culinary delights and nature experience
Süpplingenburg lies on the northern edge of the Elm ridge in the southwestern district of Helmstedt and is a member municipality of the Samtgemeinde Nord-Elm. Süpplingenburg is primarily known as the birthplace of Emperor Lothar III (1075–1137), founder of the Königslutter Imperial Cathedral.
The Rhododendron Garden by the Sandteich is a small but remarkable park in Süpplingenburg. Over the decades, hundreds of rhododendrons have been planted on the former Sandteich site, which are in full bloom in late May and early June. The variety of species and colors — from delicate pink to vibrant fuchsia to white, lilac, and red — makes the garden a regional specialty.
The optimal blooming period for North German rhododendrons is — depending on the variety and weather — between mid-May and mid-June. The Blossom Festival on the last weekend of May deliberately focuses on the middle of this period, usually guaranteeing a colorful experience.
Local clubs, the fire department, possibly direct marketers, and snack vendors cater to visitors. Coffee and cake, bratwurst, salads, drinks, and ice cream are on offer. Food is served in the garden or at its edge.
Unlike large events, the Blütenfest emphasizes a tranquil nature experience. Visitors stroll along the garden paths, photograph the blossoms, relax on benches, and enjoy the atmosphere. Guided walks or talks by horticultural experts are possible.
The Samtgemeinde Nord-Elm comprises the member municipalities of Frellstedt, Königslutter-Bornum, Räbke, Süpplingen, Süpplingenburg, and Warberg. The name refers to its location on the northern Elm ridge. The Samtgemeinde is administratively independent, and its clubs often cooperate.
The detailed program for 2026, including any guided tours or special lectures, will be published by the municipality of Süpplingenburg shortly before the event on samtgemeinde-nord-elm.de. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Festival opening on both days in the morning, continuous catering throughout the day, free access to the garden, possibly short guided tours or garden talks.
