Birkweiler Wine Spring on Pentecost Weekend 2026 — 2 km circular route through the vineyards with 6 stations, 9 wineries, and 5 gastronomy businesses
The Birkweiler Weinfrühling has been repeatedly awarded "Most Beautiful Wine Festival of the Palatinate" — an acknowledgment that reflects its unique concept. Unlike classic Palatinate wine festivals held in the town center, the Birkweiler Weinfrühling moves the festival into the vineyards themselves. Visitors hike between the rows of vines, stop at the stations, taste wines, and enjoy the landscape.
Birkweiler is a small winery village with about 700 inhabitants in the Verbandsgemeinde Landau-Land. Despite its small size, Birkweiler boasts prestigious vineyards — the "Kastanienbusch" is a VDP-Große-Lage (Grand Cru vineyard), counted among the top sites in the entire Palatinate. Several Birkweiler wineries are established at the forefront of German viticulture.
The Birkweiler Weinfrühling takes place on a 2 km circular route through the vineyards. At 6 stations along the route, catering points are set up — the 9 participating Birkweiler wineries and 5 gastronomy businesses are spread across these stations. Visitors hike the circular route at their own pace, stopping wherever they wish, tasting wines and food.
The 9 participating wineries include the most important Birkweiler producers. They present their wines — Rieslings from the top "Kastanienbusch" vineyard, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Rosé wines. The 5 gastronomy businesses complement with Palatinate specialties (Saumagen, Flammkuchen, Bratwurst, cheese) — a combination that makes hiking and tasting an all-day activity.
The Birkweiler Weinfrühling traditionally takes place on Pentecost weekend. In 2026, this is Saturday, May 23rd (opening at 2 PM), Sunday, May 24th (from 11 AM), and Whit Monday, May 25th (from 11 AM). Three days of festival operations in the vineyard landscape. The Pentecost dates are very popular during the Palatinate wine festival season — many wine lovers use the long weekend for a stay in the Palatinate.
What makes the Birkweiler Weinfrühling special: the combination of a nature experience (hiking in the vineyards with views of the Rhine plain and the Palatinate Forest), wine culture (tasting top wines directly at their origin), conviviality (meeting winemakers and other festival visitors), and gastronomy. This combination is unique in the Palatinate festival calendar and attracts a discerning audience.
The 2026 edition takes advantage of the traditional Pentecost weekend. The concept of the wine hiking trail through the Birkweiler vineyards remains the unique hallmark of the festival.
