Three days of beer from around the world, street food, and live music at the historic racecourse in East Berlin
The Karlshorst racecourse, opened in 1894 and still an active racing venue, also hosts events in the summer. For a long June weekend, the Bier-Festival Berlin takes over the area on Treskowallee, turning the vast infield into an open-air beer garden.
The focus is on around 100 types of beer from breweries in Germany and abroad. The spectrum ranges from Berlin craft brewers and classic Bavarian and North German breweries to specialties from Belgium, the Czech Republic, or the USA. Accompanying this are street food stalls – burgers, Flammkuchen, Currywurst, international cuisine – and several stages with live bands and DJ sets.
Karlshorst is administratively part of the Lichtenberg district but lies in the transitional area to Treptow-Köpenick. The neighborhood is characterized by Wilhelminian-era villas, wide avenues, and lots of greenery around the Berlin Zoo. The racecourse has been part of Berlin's sports and leisure history for over 130 years – today it is also home to horse markets, concerts, and precisely this beer festival.
The festival attracts a mixed crowd: Karlshorst residents, beer lovers from all over Berlin, families from neighboring Köpenick and Lichtenberg. The atmosphere is deliberately relaxed, more beer garden than festival – little staging, plenty of space, long tables, a children's area. Entry is free; payment is made on-site at the brewery stands with your own glass or with tokens.
The Bier-Festival Berlin returns in 2026 to its traditional location at the Karlshorst racecourse. For three days, stalls from regional and international breweries will populate the infield of the racecourse. Families will find space on the lawns, food trucks will provide hearty and international cuisine, and several stages will feature a rotating program of live music and DJ sets.
The organizers (Hauptstadtkultur Berlin) are continuing their focus on an open, accessible character: no tickets, free entry, payment directly at the stalls. The exact program – participating breweries and bands – will be published in the weeks leading up to the festival on the official website.
The specific list of breweries and bands for 2026 will be published on hauptstadtkultur.berlin and karlshorst.de.
