Shooting Tradition in Upper Franconia
The District Marksmen's Day is the annual central assembly of the marksmen's clubs of a Bavarian shooting district. In Upper Franconia, the Upper Franconia Marksmen's District within the BSSB (Bavarian Marksmen's Association) meets in rotation in different towns. After Bad Rodach in 2025 (72nd District Marksmen's Day), the town of Münchberg will be the host in 2026, organized by the local Shooting Society (SG) Münchberg.
Program and Significance
A District Marksmen's Day combines sporting tradition with cultural heritage:
- Parade of Flags of the participating marksmen's clubs with flag bearers and marksmen kings
- Celebratory Service
- Official assembly with the district board and club delegations
- Proclamation of the new District Marksmen Kings – marksmen from Upper Franconian clubs who achieved the best scores in the respective competition year
- Honors for deserving officials, long-standing club members, and successful athletes
- Joint lunch or dinner with dancing and socializing
Upper Franconia Marksmen's District
The Upper Franconia Marksmen's District unites the districts of Oberfranken-Nord, Oberfranken-Süd, and Oberfranken-West, which in turn bundle numerous marksmen's clubs in Upper Franconia. In total, several tens of thousands of sports shooters are organized there. The District Marksmen's Day is the annual highlight of this association's life.
Münchberg in the Hof District
Münchberg, a town of around 10,000 inhabitants in the Hof district in northern Bavaria, is located on the edge of the Fichtelgebirge. SG Münchberg is the town's shooting society and has been active in the Upper Franconian shooting scene for decades. By hosting the 73rd edition, Münchberg has the opportunity to present itself as a host for the Upper Franconian shooting family.

73rd Edition 2026 in Münchberg
In 2026, it will be the 73rd edition of the Upper Franconian District Marksmen's Day. After the award in Bad Rodach in 2025, the delegates decided to hold the next festive event in Münchberg. SG Münchberg will take on the organizational responsibility – hall, program, catering, logistics.
Program Structure
The festive day follows the established structure of the District Marksmen's Day: flag parade in the morning, celebratory service, official assembly with club reports, lunch, proclamation of the Marksmen Kings, honors, and closing celebration.
Registration for Flag Delegations
Marksmen's clubs wishing to participate in the parade with a flag delegation should register online via the BSSB-Oberfranken website. The form will collect club name, contact details, names of flag bearers and Marksmen Kings, and the number of participants.
