Traditional mountain festival of MGV Kleinheppach at the viewpoint on Kleinheppacher Kopf — 2026 featuring a focus on rescue dogs
The Kleinheppacher Kopf is one of the highest and most beautiful viewpoints in the Remstal valley — a hill above Kleinheppach (a district of the municipality of Korb) with a 360-degree view over the vineyards, the Remstal, and on clear days, all the way to the Swabian Jura. Here, amidst the vineyards, the mountain festival of the men's choir Kleinheppach (MGV) has been held for decades — one of the most beautiful club festivals in the region between Stuttgart and Schwäbisch Hall. In 2026, the festival will take place on Thursday, May 14th (Ascension Day) and Sunday, May 17th.
The date is traditional: Thursday, May 14th, 2026, is Ascension Day (Father's Day) — the traditional occasion for mountain festivals throughout Southern Germany, when men's groups head out into the countryside, and the MGV hosts the festival on the mountain. Sunday, May 17th, complements the event with a 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) atmosphere — families, hikers, and day-trippers come up the mountain, enjoy the view, and the hearty food.
The special feature in 2026 is the program focus: Instead of classic live music, the MGV will concentrate on demonstrations by its rescue dog team. The MGV Kleinheppach operates a volunteer rescue dog team used in searches for missing persons — festival visitors will experience a training demonstration where the dogs, guided by their handlers, find search subjects, overcome obstacles, and perform retrieving exercises. An unusual and educational program choice that clearly shows how the club's revenue is used.
The catering is traditionally Swabian and deliberately priced to be family-friendly:
The prices are explicitly "family-friendly" — the MGV does not aim to be a "moon-price" festival, but rather a club festival that everyone can attend.
The ascent to Kleinheppacher Kopf is possible on foot (15–25 minutes depending on pace) and is part of the classic mountain festival experience. Those who wish to skip the climb can use the shuttle bus organized by the MGV from Gasthaus Krone in Kleinheppach — a round trip on a regular shuttle service. This is an important comfort feature for older guests and families with small children.
Korb is a municipality in the Rems-Murr district, about 20 km east of Stuttgart in the picturesque Remstal valley — the wine-growing region around the Rems river. Kleinheppach is one of Korb's districts and the home of the MGV. The vineyard sites around Kleinheppacher Kopf are among the oldest and best in the Remstal. You can reach Korb from Stuttgart in 25 minutes via the S2 suburban train, followed by a short walk or the MGV shuttle bus to the mountain.
