A Fair with Florian's Garden

The Beckingen Fair is one of the annual summer festivals in the municipality of Beckingen (Merzig-Wadern district). A special feature: it combines the classic village fair on the market square with the Florian's Garden of the Volunteer Fire Brigade – a beer tent with a barbecue offer run by the Beckingen Volunteer Fire Brigade's fire station. This combination of folk festival and fire brigade festival is a Saarland tradition: Florian's Gardens – named after the patron saint of the fire brigade, Saint Florian – are a popular format throughout the Saarland.

Market Square and Fire Station

Geographically, the fair is divided into two poles. The market square features amusement rides, food stalls, and sweet stands – the classic fair inventory. At the fire station, slightly off to the side, the fire brigade operates its Florian's Garden with grilled specialties and live music on Fair Monday. Those who want to experience both can walk the short distance between the locations.

Concert by the United Wind Orchestra

A traditional highlight on Fair Sunday is the concert by the United Wind Orchestra Beckingen on the market square, usually between 11 am and 1 pm. Saarland's wind music tradition – with marches, polkas, folk dances, and occasionally modern pop arrangements – is firmly anchored in Beckingen's summer program.

Live Music on Fair Monday

While the main fair runs over the weekend, Fair Monday is the characteristic day for the Florian's Garden. The fire brigade invites guests for live music, the grill is running at full speed, as is the bar. It's the relaxed end to the fair days and, at the same time, a classic club festival for the fire brigade – they use the proceeds for their own club activities.

Beckingen in the Merzig-Wadern District

Beckingen is located in the Merzig-Wadern district, one of the most rural and scenically beautiful parts of the Saarland – with the Saarschleife in Mettlach, vineyards in Perl on the Luxembourg border, and the Hochwald foothills. The Beckingen Fair is part of a dense calendar of fairs, Florian's Gardens, and club festivals that characterize the summer here.
