Village festival in Bechenheim with a third wine tasting in the marquee on Saturday evening
Bechenheim is one of the smallest municipalities in the Alzey-Land administrative district. With its around 400 inhabitants, characteristic village structure, and location at the transition from Rhenish Hesse to the Donnersberg district, it embodies the typical Rhenish-Hessian wine village. Despite its small size, Bechenheim maintains a lively club life, and the annual Kerb is the social highlight of the festival calendar.
The Kerb begins on Friday, June 15th, 2026, with the opening in the marquee, the traditional keg tapping, and a first evening concert. Saturday, June 16th, brings the highlight of the festival week: the third wine tasting in the marquee. Here, Bechenheim and neighboring vintners present a selected tasting sequence of their wines, commented and explained. On Sunday, June 17th, the Kerb concludes with a morning pint (Frühschoppen), lunch, and a relaxed festival atmosphere.
The annual wine tasting in the marquee is one of the special features of the Bechenheim Kerb. Unlike the open wine sales at classic wine stands, the wine tasting offers a structured, guided tasting of around eight to twelve wines – usually a selection of Riesling, Silvaner, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Rosé. A moderator introduces the wines, explaining their cultivation, production, and style. This form of wine presentation is aimed at interested wine lovers who want to learn more about Rhenish-Hessian wine culture than is possible during the classic festival activities.
What distinguishes the Bechenheim Kerb is its manageability. In the marquee, everyone knows everyone, the atmosphere is familiar, and the distances are short. Visitors from outside the village are quickly drawn into conversations and experience a warm welcome. This type of village festival can still be found frequently in the Wonnegau and the Alzey-Land administrative district, but nowhere is it as compact and intimate as in Bechenheim.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in early summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
