Living Handicraft and 40+ Palatinate Direct Marketers on the Rathausplatz
The Frankenthal Farmers' and Handicraft Market on September 5th and 6th, 2026 — expected, as in previous years — brings over 40 Palatinate direct marketers and craftspeople to Frankenthal's Rathausplatz under the motto Living Handicraft. Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, farmers, vintners, cheesemakers, and artisans will present their products. Demonstrations such as wreath-making, basket weaving, and other traditional craft techniques complement the market offerings.
A late summer highlight that focuses on Palatinate direct marketing and craftsmanship.
The Frankenthal Farmers' and Handicraft Market has been a regular fixture in late summer for years. The format combines two important concerns: promoting regional direct marketing — farmers, vintners, cheesemakers, beekeepers, and sausage makers sell directly to end customers without intermediaries — and preserving handicrafts. The latter is increasingly precious in an industrialized world: handmade products, traditional techniques, individual pieces.
More than 40 exhibitors will be on site. The focus is on: seasonal vegetables and fruits, wine from the Vorderpfalz, Pfalz, and Rheinhessen growing regions, cheese from regional milk production, Palatinate farm sausage and meat specialties, honey and bee products, bread and baked goods, jams, liqueurs, and brandies, pickled specialties. A culinary journey through Palatinate agriculture.
The motto Living Handicraft is brought to life through demonstrations. Wreath-making — the artistic creation of harvest wreaths with grains, flowers, and ribbons — basket weaving, wood carving, pottery, weaving, and other traditional techniques will be shown on site. Visitors can ask the craftspeople questions and sometimes even participate.
The Rathausplatz in the heart of Frankenthal provides the ideal setting. Market stalls are decorated with umbrellas and natural materials, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a Mediterranean weekly market. Cafés and restaurants on the square are open, and seating areas invite visitors to linger.
The early September date is chosen deliberately: the harvest season is in full swing, fresh fruits and vegetables, young wines, early summer honey — everything is available. The temperatures are pleasant, and the market can take place without weather tents.
The 2026 Frankenthal Farmers' and Handicraft Market is expected to open on September 5th and 6th on the Rathausplatz. Both days from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, over 40 direct marketers from the Palatinate will present their products — vegetables, wine, cheese, sausage, honey, bread, jams — and craftspeople will showcase their work with demonstrations like wreath-making and basket weaving. Organized by the City of Frankenthal under the motto Living Handicraft.
The City of Frankenthal coordinates the market with the direct marketer and craft associations of the Palatinate. Exhibitor registration takes place in early summer, and the exact date for 2026 will be published in the summer — the tradition of the first weekend in September is expected to continue.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in late summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
