Season opener of the Bassum Open Air series with historic vehicles with H plates at the Freudenburg Bassum
The Freudenburg is a historically significant site in the center of Bassum and has been the focal point of numerous events in the Diepholz district for decades. The combination of 18th-century buildings, well-maintained grounds, and the central courtyard provides a visually high-quality setting for classic car meetings. The town of Bassum is located about 35 kilometers south of Bremen on the railway line to Osnabrück.
The Oldtimer Meeting on May 1st is the traditional season opener for the "Bassum Open Air" series, which hosts concerts and cultural events at the same location later in the year. Only vehicles with H plates, meaning vehicles at least 30 years old and in good original condition, are permitted. This includes cars, motorcycles, tractors, and older commercial vehicles (NKW) and trucks. Vehicle entry begins at 9 a.m.; the exhibition runs all day.
Admission is free for spectators. Drivers benefit from free exhibition space, breakfast offerings, and a collegial atmosphere. The grounds feature a wealth of technical and historical gems – from pre-war sedans, Beetles, and Pagodas to classic motorcycles like BMW R models, Münch, or NSU. Lanz Bulldog tractors and older Mercedes trucks from the 1960s are also regularly represented.
Catering is provided by local clubs and food truck operators: breakfast, bratwurst, coffee and cake, along with drinks. Traditionally, a light stage program is offered on May Day. In very good weather, several hundred vehicles and several thousand visitors are regularly reported. Vehicle registration is possible through the Oldtimer Club Altkreis Syke or directly on the day of the event.
The 2026 meeting, like in previous years, will bring together several hundred historic vehicles of all classes. The atmosphere is family-friendly, and the audience is technically interested. For many classic car enthusiasts, May 1st in Bassum is the season's opening event and is often combined with a tour in the surrounding region.
Vehicle registration is possible both in advance through the organizers and on the day of the event directly on-site. At the Freudenburg, designated exhibition spaces are available for the different vehicle categories.
The 2026 program follows the proven structure of the meeting:
