Magic of Lights in the UNESCO World Heritage Site
Bad Kissingen, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2021 as the Great Spa Town of Europe, transforms into a sparkling jewel box every year during Advent. The Bad Kissinger Lichterglanz is more than a classic Christmas market: the entire historic city center of the spa town in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen is adorned with thousands of lights, stars, and garlands, creating a continuous light installation from Rosengasse to the Kurpark.
Market Square as the Heartpiece
Most market stalls are located on the Market Square. Here, the air is filled with the scent of mulled wine, gingerbread, bratwurst, almonds, and cloves. Rustic wood stoves warm guests at standing tables, while Franconian arts and crafts, Christmas tree ornaments, nativity figures, and handmade gift ideas fill the stalls. On the stage, changing performances provide a festive accompaniment – the Bad Kissingen Youth Music Corps traditionally opens the market.
Old Town Hall and Ludwigstraße
At the Old Town Hall, the aroma of wood-fired bread, tarte flambée, and fresh crêpes fills the air. A classic children's carousel spins for the youngest visitors. In the upper Ludwigstraße, you'll find warm clothing, cozy socks, and Christmas accessories – as well as a stand for the popular Bad Kissinger vouchers, which can be redeemed in over 100 local shops.
Rose Queen, St. Nicholas, and Angel's Greeting
For the festive opening on Friday, November 27, 2026, at 5:30 PM, Mayor Dr. Dirk Vogel, the Rose Queen with her angels, and St. Nicholas will welcome the guests. In the following weeks, angels and St. Nicholas will regularly stroll across the market square, giving gifts to children. A typical Franconian detail: the connection to the theme of spa culture and roses, which has shaped Bad Kissingen since the 19th century.
Open until New Year's Eve
The market runs for five weeks from the end of November until after St. Stephen's Day. The extended opening hours (daily, even on Christmas Eve from 10 AM to 2 PM and on December 25th/26th from 12 PM to 9 PM) make Lichterglanz one of the few markets in Bavaria that continue to offer Christmas spirit after Christmas Eve.
Combination with Spa and Wellness Stay
Visitors to Lichterglanz can ideally combine it with a wellness stay in one of Bad Kissingen's traditional hotels. The KissSalis Therme, the Wandelhalle, and the festively illuminated spa park are just a few minutes' walk away – a unique combination in Bavaria of a Christmas market and spa tradition.
