Five-day town festival in the heart of the Palatinate with live music, wine, family program, and Sunday shopping
In 2026, the Bad Dürkheim Town Festival will span five days, from Wednesday, May 13th, to Sunday, May 17th. This exceptionally long festival duration (classic town festivals often last only three days) allows for a broad program and gives visitors ample time to experience the town festival in all its diversity. The festival backdrop of Schlossplatz, complemented by other squares in Bad Dürkheim's city center, offers space for stages, stalls, gastronomy, and various event locations.
Live bands, local and national acts, dialect musicians, and DJs alternate on the various stages. The spectrum ranges from pop and rock to cover bands, Palatinate dialect music, and Schlager. In parallel, Palatinate vintners present their wines at several serving points. Bad Dürkheim's gastronomy and external vendors provide culinary delights with Palatinate classics: Saumagen (pig's stomach stuffed with pork and spices), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Bratwürste (fried sausages), Sauerkraut, Pfälzer Wurstsalat (Palatinate sausage salad), accompanied by beer and wine. Federweißer (young wine) precursors and Riesling classics dominate the wine selection.
The town festival places special emphasis on its family program. The puppet theater offers performances for children, the shadow theater fascinates with its traditional art form, and the traditional duck race is a highlight for the whole family: hundreds of yellow plastic ducks are released into a stream or fountain, and the fastest duck wins a prize for its owner. This playful event has been a favorite for Bad Dürkheim families for years.
The crowning finale is the Sunday shopping on May 17th: Bad Dürkheim's retailers open their doors and attract visitors with spring offers. This combination of town festival and Sunday shopping increases visitor numbers, making Sunday the busiest day of the entire festival.
Bad Dürkheim, the Palatinate spa town with Roman history, the famous Dürkheim Giant Barrel, and the world's largest wine festival (Wurstmarkt in September), offers a unique festival backdrop. The historic city center, the nearby vineyards, and the thermal atmosphere of the spa town lend the town festival a special flair.
