Third wine festival in the Avenwedde district – over 20 wines from four countries, live music, and shooting fraternity tradition
The Avenwedde Wine Festival „Wine & Dine“ is a young but already established culinary festival in Gütersloh-Avenwedde. It has been organized since 2024 by the traditional St. Sebastianus Shooting Fraternity Avenwedde – an association typically known for Schützenfeste (shooting festivals), king's shoots, and shooting balls. With the wine festival, the fraternity consciously opens its grounds to a more Mediterranean-influenced culinary format: over 20 wines from four countries, plus antipasti, cheese, Flammkuchen, and small warm dishes.
The 2026 edition is announced for the weekend of August 22 to 23. The St. Hubertus Fraternity Avenwedde's parallel calendar lists a “Weinmarkt in Avenwedde” (Wine Market in Avenwedde) for August 28–29, 2026 – both events take place in the same district and complement each other. It's advisable to check sebastianer-avenwedde.de briefly before visiting to confirm the exact date.
The concept spans the most important European wine regions:
Wines are offered by the glass, with bottle sales also available. Each wine is briefly introduced – in a relaxed manner, without sommelier formality.
To complement the wine, there is a small, carefully selected menu: Bruschetta, antipasti platters, wood-fired Flammkuchen, grilled sausages, cheese selections, tapas boards. The combination of wine and matching bites is the declared concept – not a mass catering, but consciously smaller portions for relaxed tasting.
Both evenings are accompanied by live music – local bands play relaxed pop, lounge, and acoustic sets. The atmosphere on the Stiftung Altewischer grounds is familial: beer garden benches, high tables, long summer evenings under fairy lights. Anyone looking for a relaxed weekend with good wine and casual conviviality will feel right at home here.
The grounds of the Stiftung Altewischer at Alte Spexarder Straße 4 may not be known to every visitor from afar, but they are firmly established in the Avenwedde district. The spacious park and historic buildings offer a unique setting – far from the city bustle, surrounded by greenery.
Gütersloh, with around 100,000 inhabitants, is the largest city in the Gütersloh district in Ostwestfalen-Lippe. Avenwedde, with about 11,000 inhabitants, is one of the largest districts and is located in the northeast of the city. Club life here is shaped by the Hubertus shoot, the Sebastianer Schützenfest, and now also the wine festival.
Following the 2024 and 2025 editions, the Wine & Dine is establishing itself as an annual summer event in Gütersloh-Avenwedde. Festival grounds, summer evenings, relaxed enjoyment – a clear contrast to the same club's traditional Schützenfest.
Bruschetta, antipasti platters, Flammkuchen, cheese selections, tapas, Bratwurst. Small tasting portions.
Free admission. Voucher system for wine and food at the entrance. Glass prices €4–€8, Flammkuchen from €8.
