About Avenwedde Wine Festival

The Avenwedde Wine Festival „Wine & Dine“ is set to transform the grounds of the Stiftung Altewischer in the Gütersloh district of Avenwedde into a lively summer celebration, likely on August 22–23, 2026. Organized by the St. Sebastianus Shooting Fraternity Avenwedde, the event will feature over 20 selected wines from four countries – Germany, Italy, France, and Spain – complemented by matching dishes, live music, and a convivial Schützenfest (shooting festival) atmosphere. Admission is free. Following a celebrated premiere in 2024 and a second wine festival in 2025, the 2026 edition marks the third iteration – a new culinary format in Gütersloh's festival landscape, clearly distinct from a traditional Schützenfest.

A Wine Festival in the Shooting Fraternity Format

The Avenwedde Wine Festival „Wine & Dine“ is a young but already established culinary festival in Gütersloh-Avenwedde. It has been organized since 2024 by the traditional St. Sebastianus Shooting Fraternity Avenwedde – an association typically known for Schützenfeste (shooting festivals), king's shoots, and shooting balls. With the wine festival, the fraternity consciously opens its grounds to a more Mediterranean-influenced culinary format: over 20 wines from four countries, plus antipasti, cheese, Flammkuchen, and small warm dishes.

Date 2026: August 22–23 (tentative)

The 2026 edition is announced for the weekend of August 22 to 23. The St. Hubertus Fraternity Avenwedde's parallel calendar lists a “Weinmarkt in Avenwedde” (Wine Market in Avenwedde) for August 28–29, 2026 – both events take place in the same district and complement each other. It's advisable to check sebastianer-avenwedde.de briefly before visiting to confirm the exact date.

Over 20 Wines from Four Countries

The concept spans the most important European wine regions:

  • Germany: Riesling, Spätburgunder, and Grauburgunder from the Rhine and Franconia
  • Italy: Primitivo, Montepulciano, Pinot Grigio from Apulia and Tuscany
  • France: Bordeaux blends, Côtes du Rhône, Sauvignon Blanc
  • Spain: Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Verdejo

Wines are offered by the glass, with bottle sales also available. Each wine is briefly introduced – in a relaxed manner, without sommelier formality.

Culinary Delights: the „Dine“ in Wine & Dine

To complement the wine, there is a small, carefully selected menu: Bruschetta, antipasti platters, wood-fired Flammkuchen, grilled sausages, cheese selections, tapas boards. The combination of wine and matching bites is the declared concept – not a mass catering, but consciously smaller portions for relaxed tasting.

Live Music and Atmosphere

Both evenings are accompanied by live music – local bands play relaxed pop, lounge, and acoustic sets. The atmosphere on the Stiftung Altewischer grounds is familial: beer garden benches, high tables, long summer evenings under fairy lights. Anyone looking for a relaxed weekend with good wine and casual conviviality will feel right at home here.

Stiftung Altewischer – A Special Venue

The grounds of the Stiftung Altewischer at Alte Spexarder Straße 4 may not be known to every visitor from afar, but they are firmly established in the Avenwedde district. The spacious park and historic buildings offer a unique setting – far from the city bustle, surrounded by greenery.

Gütersloh and Avenwedde

Gütersloh, with around 100,000 inhabitants, is the largest city in the Gütersloh district in Ostwestfalen-Lippe. Avenwedde, with about 11,000 inhabitants, is one of the largest districts and is located in the northeast of the city. Club life here is shaped by the Hubertus shoot, the Sebastianer Schützenfest, and now also the wine festival.

Avenwedde Wine Festival — edition 2026

Third Avenwedde Wine Festival „Wine & Dine“ in summer 2026 on the grounds of Stiftung Altewischer. Over 20 wines from Germany, Italy, France, and Spain, small menu with antipasti, Flammkuchen, cheese, and bruschetta. Live music both evenings. Free admission. Organizer: St. Sebastianus Shooting Fraternity Avenwedde. Inquire with the fraternity for the exact date.

Following the 2024 and 2025 editions, the Wine & Dine is establishing itself as an annual summer event in Gütersloh-Avenwedde. Festival grounds, summer evenings, relaxed enjoyment – a clear contrast to the same club's traditional Schützenfest.
