About Aschenputtelspiel Polle

The Aschenputtelspiel (Cinderella Play) at the Polle Castle Open-Air Stage has been a firm fixture of the cultural summer program in the Weserbergland since 1986. The Polle Amateur Theatre Group e.V. presents the popular Grimm fairy tale every fourth Sunday from May to September at 3:00 PM on the open-air stage of the historic Oberburg. In 2026, the play falls on May 24, June 28, July 26, August 23, and September 27. Admission is free. The combination of a fairy tale play, the historic castle backdrop, and voluntary commitment makes the Aschenputtelspiel one of the most charming family events in the region.

Four Decades of Amateur Theatre

Since 1986, the Polle Amateur Theatre Group e.V. has been a significant contributor to the cultural life of the town. Generations of participants have staged fairy tales, legends, and folk stories on the open-air stage of the Oberburg Polle over the years. The Aschenputtelspiel has become a particularly prominent piece – it forms the centerpiece of the seasonal performances.

Fairy Tale Play in a Historic Setting

The Oberburg Polle sits enthroned above the Weser River, forming one of the most impressive castle ruins in the Weserbergland. The open-air stage in this setting lends the fairy tale play a special aura. Cinderella and the Prince, the wicked stepmother and stepsisters, doves, and magical transformations find their space here, allowing the fairy tale to unfold its full effect.

Family Event with Free Admission

Free admission – this is an important part of the amateur theatre group's ethos. Families from the Weserbergland and beyond can attend the play without financial barriers. Donations collected after the performances help to fund the work of the amateur theatre group.
