Lower Bavarian Traditional Volksfest since 1886
The Arnstorf Volksfest looks back on a particularly long history: first organized as an agricultural exhibition in 1886, it already celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2011. This makes it one of the oldest continuously celebrated Volksfests in the Rottal-Inn district — a region that consciously distinguishes itself from the major Volksfest destinations in Bavaria with its mix of agriculture, medium-sized businesses, and Lower Bavarian lifestyle.
A hallmark of the festival is its traditional wooden festival tent with space for around 4,000 visitors. The tent is rebuilt year after year — a festival tent that clearly recalls the Volksfests of past generations in its appearance and is therefore a sought-after image for photo reports.
The festival beer is supplied by Brauerei Deym, a private brewery from Arnstorf that brews a special batch for the Volksfest every year. Served in a classic Stein-Maßkrug (stone liter mug), it is one of the unmistakable markers of the Arnstorf Volksfest.
The Volksfest in Arnstorf is not the largest in the region — the Volksfests in Dingolfing, Eggenfelden, or Pfarrkirchen attract larger crowds. But it is precisely the manageable size that makes the Arnstorf festival special: people know each other here, club evenings are not staged but are genuine club life, a liter of beer still costs what you expect, and the wooden festival tent is a central marker of identity.
The Arnstorf Volksfest 2026 will take place from Tuesday, August 4, to Sunday, August 9, 2026, on Arnstorf's market square. First celebrated in 1886, the festival is now entering its 140th year — while retaining its characteristic style with a wooden festival tent, Deym festival beer in a stone mug, and a five-day program.
Organized by the market town of Arnstorf under the leadership of Thomas Unverdorben, the program runs from the festival kickoff on Friday through the party nights on the weekend to the classic seniors' and children's afternoons in the second half of the festival.
Free admission. Festival beer, food, showmen, and rides are paid for on-site at the respective listed prices. Family offers on Sunday and Monday are partly discounted.
Arnstorf is located in the Rottal-Inn district on the B 388 between Vilsbiburg and Pfarrkirchen. By train to Eggenfelden or Mühldorf, then by bus to Arnstorf.
Admission to the festival grounds and tent is free. Festival beer, rides, and showmen are paid for on-site.
Those who want to experience the historic wooden festival tent architecture in peace should come on Sunday afternoon or Tuesday (Seniors' Afternoon — quiet and well-attended). Sunday's Family Day is the most child-friendly option.
