About ANDERSWELTEN Botanical Garden

From May 31 to September 26, 2026, the ANDERSWELTEN exhibition will transform the Botanical Garden of the University of Osnabrück into a space for dialogue between nature and contemporary art. Sculptures, installations, and site-specific works by various artists will be embedded in the natural vegetation — among plant collections, greenhouses, and themed gardens. The exhibition Wild Diversity in the Garden runs concurrently (June 13–November 22, 2026). Guided tours and educational programs will make the exhibition accessible. The Botanical Garden at Albrechtstraße 29, with over 8,000 plant species, is one of Germany's most important university gardens.

Art Meets the Plant World

With over 8,000 plant species, the Botanical Garden of the University of Osnabrück is one of Germany's most significant university gardens. During the summer months, it becomes the stage for the exhibition ANDERSWELTEN — When Art Meets Nature. From May 31 to September 26, 2026, the show will feature contemporary sculptures, installations, and site-specific works in dialogue with the natural environment.

Concept: Art in the Realm of Nature

Instead of placing art in a white cube, ANDERSWELTEN takes the opposite approach: Nature is the exhibition space, and artworks will be encountered by visitors during a stroll among plant collections, greenhouses, and themed gardens. The material, color, form, and location of each work are carefully coordinated with the natural surroundings.

Artists

The participating artists come from the region and beyond. Sculpture, installation, textile art, land art, and digital art are represented. The exact artist list for 2026 will be published by the Botanical Garden at bogos.uni-osnabrueck.de.

Concurrent Exhibition: Wild Diversity in the Garden

From June 13 to November 22, 2026, the Botanical Garden will also host the exhibition Wild Diversity in the Garden. It focuses on the value of wild plants for biodiversity and climate protection in urban and private spaces. Both exhibitions can be experienced concurrently during a visit to the garden.

Guided Tours and Education

The Botanical Garden regularly offers guided tours of the art exhibition — both public dates and group tours upon request. The educational program also includes family tours, workshops for school classes, and artist talks on selected Sundays.

Practical Information

The Botanical Garden at Albrechtstraße 29 is open year-round. Admission to the exhibition is 5 Euros for adults and 3 Euros for students. Children and severely disabled individuals often receive discounts or free entry.
