54th edition of the traditional Hambach Wine Festival with Maypole raising, vintage car show, and spring market
The 54th Andergasser Fest will take place in 2026 from Thursday, April 30th to Sunday, May 3rd, in the wine village of Hambach. It is one of the most traditional and best-attended spring wine festivals in the Pfalz region, cleverly bridging May 1st and the first May weekend.
The venue is the Andergasse and the adjacent winegrower courtyards in Hambach, the famous wine village below Hambach Castle. The Andergasse itself will be transformed into a continuously decorated festival mile during the event, where several Hambach wineries open their courtyards and serve a wide selection of Palatinate wines.
The festival begins on Thursday, April 30th at 6 PM with the pre-opening, a relaxed opening on a smaller scale. The actual main opening is on May 1st with the traditional Maibaumstellen (Maypole raising): the Kolpingskapelle band will play from 10:45 AM, and the Maypole will be erected in the traditional manner. Simultaneously, the spring market with regional vendors opens at 11 AM.
Saturday, May 2nd is the big evening of the festival with live music and DJs at several spots along the Andergasse — the festival mile remains open until 1 AM. The event concludes on Sunday, May 3rd with the traditional vintage car exhibition: over 35 meticulously maintained classic cars will be presented, and the spring market will once again enliven the festival mile.
On all festival days, the Hambach winegrowers serve their wines directly from their courtyards: Riesling, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder, and robust Rosé wines from the vineyards around Hambach Castle. Palatinate specialties such as Saumagen, Bratwurst, Flammkuchen, and Quetschekuche accompany the wines. The location at the foot of Hambach Castle, the symbol of German democratic history, gives the festival a special atmosphere.
The 2026 edition of the Andergasser Fest comprises four full festival days from April 30th to May 3rd. The complete program is already outlined and will be further detailed by the organizing committee in the spring.
The structure follows the proven concept of previous years: Thursday evening pre-opening on a smaller scale, May Day with the traditional Maypole raising in the morning followed by festival activities, Saturday as the big evening with live music and DJs, and Sunday as family day with the vintage car show.
