Tradition for over 25 years
The Amberger Frühlingslauf is organized by CIS Amberg in cooperation with ESV Amberg and looks back on over 25 years of tradition. With around 200 runners annually, the event is not a mass event but remains a deliberately manageable competition for the running middle class of Eastern Bavaria – with a balanced course, local club structures, and short distances between start, finish, and aid stations.
Start and finish at the Schanzl
Start and finish is the Stadion am Schanzl, located right in the middle of the former State Garden Show grounds north of Amberg's city center. The course is flat and fast; both the half marathon (21.1 km) and the 10 km run take place on predominantly asphalted paths around the grounds and along the Vils river.
Program and Rankings
In 2026, the Frühlingslauf's 10 km run will be the opening competition of the newly relaunched Landkreiscup Amberg-Sulzbach. The half marathon counts towards the Upper Palatinate Championship. In addition, there are children's and youth runs in various age groups and a 5.4 km women's run. The organizers will announce the date for the 2026 edition at the end of April; the exact course map and detailed schedule will be published on the club's website.
Amberg in the Upper Palatinate
Amberg is an independent city in the Upper Palatinate, about 60 km east of Nuremberg. The historic old town center with its city walls and gates is just south of the Schanzl Stadium; travel from Nuremberg via the A6 motorway takes about 45 minutes. The city hosts several competitions throughout the year, and the Frühlingslauf opens the running season in Eastern Bavaria.
