Three days of live music, culinary delights, and family entertainment in the historic old town of Salzgitter-Bad
In 2026, the Altstadtfest Salzgitter-Bad will celebrate its 48th edition, making it one of the most traditional civic festivals in southeastern Lower Saxony. The organizer is the volunteer-run Komitee Bürgerfeste e.V., based at Marktplatz 11. The dedication of the many helpers makes it possible for the festival to remain freely accessible for decades while offering high-caliber stage programs.
The musical heart of the Altstadtfest is formed by three stages spread across the grounds. The Sparkassen-Bühne at Klesmerplatz features major live acts with rock, pop, and cover bands. The Wohnbau-Bühne at the market square presents a diverse program of Schlager, folk music, and interactive shows. The Jugendbühne (Youth Stage) provides a platform for emerging bands and acts specifically for a younger audience. Between the stages, food and drink stalls, regional specialties, beer benches, and stands from local clubs line the route.
A special feature that the Altstadtfest Salzgitter-Bad has established in recent years is the 'Stille Stunde' (Quiet Hour). During these time slots, music volume is reduced, light effects are dimmed, and breaks are taken in the program so that people with autism, sensory processing disorders, or increased sensitivity to stimuli can also enjoy the festival in peace. In 2026, the 'Stille Stunde' is scheduled for Saturday, June 27th, from 5 PM to 6 PM, and Sunday, June 28th, from 1 PM to 2 PM.
Beyond the musical program, the Altstadtfest offers a colorful mix of carousels, face painting, hands-on activities, and demonstrations by local clubs. The culinary range extends from classic bratwurst to international specialties, sweets, and regional drinks. Many downtown restaurateurs take the opportunity to expand their outdoor seating and participate in the festivities.
The historic market square of Salzgitter-Bad, with its listed half-timbered buildings and the nearby Klosterkirche St. Maria (St. Mary's Monastery Church), provides the ideal backdrop for a civic festival of this magnitude. Salzgitter-Bad is the oldest district of the city of Salzgitter and looks back on a long tradition as a brine and spa town – a heritage that is still reflected in the architecture of the old town today.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
