Town festival on the market and church square
Krakow am See is a small town on the western edge of the Mecklenburg Lake District with a historically grown town center: half-timbered and plastered facades, cafés, small shops, and the tourist information office line the market square and church. The Altstadtfest takes place precisely on these two squares—Market Square and Church Square—showcasing the town's club life and musical engagement once a year.
The Altstadtfest serves as the showcase for club life in Krakow am See. The Krakower Karnevalsklub, Seesportclub, FSV Krakow am See, the cultural association »Alte Synagoge«, and other groups are invited to participate with stalls, performances, or hands-on activities on the day. This is the character of the festival: less of a big stage, more of a meeting point—with a clear connection to local history and culture.
A special feature of the 2026 edition is the parade by the Krakower Karnevalsklub to celebrate the club's 70th anniversary. Carnival parades are rather rare in Mecklenburg—the Krakow carnival tradition developed from the club structures of the GDR and the post-reunification era and is now part of the local identity. The parade brings floats, clubs, and Krakow residents to the streets.
The Altstadtfest on June 20th complements the town's event calendar, which also includes Music on the Lake, the Fishermen's Festival, and the Advent Market—four familiar dates that structure the town's year in Krakow.
The 2026 Altstadtfest in Krakow am See will take place on June 20th on the Market and Church Square in the town center. The event is organized by the town of Krakow am See together with its tourist information office; local clubs are involved. As in previous years, the program offers entertainment, live music, and dance, stalls, and hands-on activities. The special feature of the 2026 edition is the parade by the Krakower Karnevalsklub to celebrate the club's 70th anniversary, which will wind through the town center. A detailed program and schedule will be published by the town in good time before the event.
