Almond Blossom Festival Gleiszellen-Gleishorbach on March 28 and 29, 2026 — Palatinate wine festival for the almond blossom with art exhibition in the Dionysius Church and illumination
Gleiszellen-Gleishorbach is a small wine village in the Bad Bergzabern administrative district, located at the southern end of the German Wine Route. With just under 800 inhabitants, it is one of the small but particularly charming Palatinate wine villages. Its location at the foot of the Palatinate Forest and in the middle of the almond tree avenues of the Vorderpfalz makes the Almond Blossom Festival one of the most atmospheric spring events in the region.
A special feature of this festival is the art exhibition in the Dionysius Church — the historical church of the village. While the wine taverns are open outside, visitors can experience an art exhibition inside the church. This combination of wine culture and fine art sets the Almond Blossom Festival apart from the typical wine festival format and gives it added cultural value.
The main venue for wine service is the Winzergasse — the central street with the highest density of wineries in the village. The vintners open their courtyards, present their wines, and offer Palatinate specialties. The wines encompass the spectrum of Palatinate diversity: Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Noir, Rosé wines, Sekt.
On Saturday evening, Gleiszellen is illuminated — a special visual spectacle with light installations that bathe the village and the blooming almond trees in a special light. This illumination attracts additional visitors and gives the festival a festive evening atmosphere that many other almond blossom festivals do not offer.
On Sunday, March 29, at 3 p.m., a guided walk along the Almond Trail takes place. The Almond Trail is a designated hiking path through the region's almond plantations — a guided tour explains botanical background information (history of almond cultivation in the Palatinate, growth and pollination of the trees) and points out the most beautiful viewpoints. The tour typically lasts 2–3 hours and ends back in the village.
The 2026 edition runs on the last weekend of March — typically the peak of the almond blossom season in Südpfalz. The festival combines wine, art, and nature experience.
Detailed program for the art exhibition and Almond Trail guided walk will be published by the organizer.
