Open-air concert by the Danish folk-pop singer-songwriter on August 15, 2026, in the Arena Gärten der Welt in Marzahn
Agnes Obel, born in Copenhagen in 1980 and based in Berlin for years, is one of the defining voices of Scandinavia's contemporary folk-pop and neoclassical scene. Her debut album Philharmonics (2010) was awarded double platinum in France, and the track „Riverside" achieved international recognition. Her subsequent albums Aventine (2013), Citizen of Glass (2016), and Myopia (2020) confirmed her status as one of Europe's most distinctive artists. Her music moves between piano ballads, multi-part vocals, cello arrangements, and electronic textures.
The Gärten der Welt (Gardens of the World) are one of Berlin's most extraordinary recreational parks, located in the Marzahn district within Marzahn-Hellersdorf. Across approximately 43 hectares, you'll find themed gardens from around the world: a Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Oriental, English, Italian, Christian, Balinese garden, and more. In the center lies the Arena, an open-air stage with seating for around 4,500 spectators, which regularly hosts high-caliber concerts during the summer months. The backdrop — stone and water gardens, blooming shrubs, large old trees — lends the concerts a special, almost meditative atmosphere.
Agnes Obel performs with a multi-member accompanying ensemble — piano, cello, strings, vocals. Her live sound is designed for richness of detail and depth of sound, which comes into its own on a warm summer evening in the Arena Gärten der Welt. The setlist typically mixes well-known pieces („Riverside", „The Curse", „Familiar") with new songs from the current album. Stage production is minimalist, with subtle lighting — the music takes center stage.
Marzahn-Hellersdorf is Berlin's easternmost district, characterized by large prefabricated housing estates from the GDR era, but also by extensive green spaces, palace parks, and the international garden exhibition. The Arena Gärten der Welt has developed into one of Berlin's important concert venues in recent years, with a high-quality summer program that draws the Berlin city center scene to the east.
