Advent in the Rheiderland Town

Weener is the second-largest town in the Leer district and the cultural center of the Rheiderland. During Advent, the town center around the market square is festively illuminated and provides the setting for the traditional Advent market. Unlike the large Christmas markets that last for weeks, the Adventsmarkt Weener focuses on a single weekend, thus retaining its familiar, local character.

Stalls, Catering, and Program

Stalls are set up in the market square and adjacent streets, offering mulled wine, punch, bratwurst, baked goods, smoked fish, and winter specialties. In addition, exhibitors offer arts and crafts, decorations, and small Christmas gifts. A small stage and musical contributions from regional choirs and brass bands create the Advent atmosphere.

Family Offer and Club Participation

Children will find carousels, craft activities, and encounters with Santa Claus. Local clubs, schools, and church groups participate in the program. This transforms a classic market format into a community Advent festival actively supported by the town.

The Adventsmarkt complements the Johannimarkt in spring and the Michaelismarkt in autumn, forming a harmonious trio of Weener's market events.
