Christmas spirit in the forest

The Adventsfest at Forst- und Köhlerhof Wiethagen is a pre-Christmas festival in the heart of the Rostocker Heide. The Köhlerhof is located in the municipality of Rövershagen in the Rostock district of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and, as a museum farm, preserves the old craft tradition of charcoal burning. During Advent, the historic grounds become a cozy meeting place for families from the region.

Program for young and old

The festival day begins in the morning with a fanfare from the hunting horn blowers. Throughout the day, a varied program awaits guests: a puppet theater in the afternoon delights the youngest visitors, and Low German theater preserves the region's low German language. The highlight for the children is the visit from St. Nicholas.

Arts and crafts and delicacies

Craftswomen and craftsmen offer handmade goods and Christmas gift ideas at the Köhlerhof. Fresh baked apples come from the stone oven, and stock bread can be baked on the campfire. Hot drinks and cozy gastronomy provide warmth on the short Advent days.

Charcoal burning as a living tradition

The Forst- und Köhlerhof Wiethagen is one of the last preserved charcoal burning farms in Northern Germany. The Adventsfest embeds the pre-Christmas season in this historic setting, combining customs, crafts, and forest romance into a festival with a special character – far from the big Christmas markets.

Getting there

The Köhlerhof Wiethagen is located between Rövershagen and the Baltic Sea coast in the Rostocker Heide. The best way to get there is by car via Rövershagen; the farm is signposted from there.
