New spring market in Hildesheim city centre focusing on regionality, leisure, and outdoor activities
Ab in den Frühling! celebrates its premiere in April 2026. Hildesheim Marketing GmbH has conceived the format to set a fresh accent in the city centre after the winter months and before summer. A Sunday with open shops, a market area, children's programme, and an outdoor experience section together form the prelude to a spring and summer season that is packed with events like Hopfen & Happen, Wine Festival, Jazztime, Market Square Music Festival, and many more.
The market's thematic focus is on three complementary themes that fit well with the spring mood: Regionality (products from the Hildesheim district and the region, regional gastronomy, producers), Leisure (providers from the areas of sport, outdoor, travel, experience), and Outdoor (garden, plants, outdoor equipment, mobility). This deliberately sets the format apart from classic spring markets.
The Market Square, Platz An der Lilie, and the pedestrian zone will be used for the event. These three areas are within walking distance of each other and together form the main thoroughfare of Hildesheim's city centre. Anyone moving from one point to another will automatically pass shops, cafés, and restaurants – ideal for a Sunday with open shops that combines shopping with a stroll through the market.
A special feature is the Spring Rally: a playful format where participants complete a route through the city centre and solve tasks, collect information, or have small experiences at various stations. Families with children can discover the city in a playful way while participating in the spring market.
A visit to the Andreasturm tower – the highest church tower in Lower Saxony at 114.5 metres – is part of the programme. Those who climb the 364 steps will be rewarded with a spectacular view over Hildesheim, the Hildesheim region, and the surrounding hills. In spring, when the trees in the city turn green, the view is particularly attractive.
For the youngest visitors, there are hands-on stations, craft activities, a bouncy castle, and small performances. The Spring Rally has a child-friendly version, so families can complete the programme together.
The premiere edition lays the foundation for a new city festival format in Hildesheim. Hildesheim Marketing GmbH brings together providers from the fields of regional products, outdoor sports, travel, gardening, mobility, and leisure for a joint presentation in the city centre.
The Sunday with open shops combines a visit to the market with the opportunity for spring shopping, while the Spring Rally and the Andreasturm tower visit create experiential moments that go beyond a classic market stroll.
