84th Leer Rowing Regatta

Rowing has a long tradition in Northern Germany. The combination of sport, water, and club life has shaped rowing culture for decades. The rowing regatta has been held in Leer since 1942 – for over 80 years – making it one of the most traditional of its kind in the region.

84 Years of Competitive Tradition

With its 84th edition, the regatta looks back on an extraordinary history. Generations of rowers have competed here for the first time, celebrated personal bests, and experienced the community of rowing. This continuity is a testament to the vibrant club scene in East Frisia.

Freizeitsee Leer as a Competition Course

The Freizeitsee Leer offers the ideal competition course. Sheltered by trees and shore paths, with sufficient length for various race distances, it allows for fair competitions in classic rowing classes. Spectators have a good view of all the racing action from the shore.

Various Boat Classes

The regatta includes the classic boat classes: single sculls (skiff), double sculls, fours with and without coxswain, quadruple sculls, and eights. Each class has its own character and presents different demands on technique, strength, and teamwork. The variety of races ensures a diverse program over the two days.

Age Groups and Rankings

In addition to boat classes, there are various age groups – from juniors and the open class to masters races for older rowers. This makes the regatta not only a performance sport event but also a platform for the broader rowing community.

Club Life

The regatta is also a social event. Club tents on the shore, shared meals between races, and encounters with friendly clubs – these aspects make the regatta a weekend of genuine club life that extends far beyond the sporting competition.
